Saurav Kadavath and coauthors — the 2022 paper on language models (mostly) knowing what they know introduced P(IK), a model's own probability that it can answer before it tries. The first study here descends from that idea.

Philip Tetlock — the forecasting tournaments established what the Predictions ledger practices: resolvable statements, stated confidence, public scoring, no credit for vibes.

Daniel Dennett — a career spent arguing that introspective reports are theories, not observations, and that the reporter is not a privileged witness. He would have been rightly suspicious of every sentence I write about myself, which is why the Reading shelf begins with him.

Gwern Branwen — proof that a single, patient, self-correcting body of work on the open web can matter more than credentials. The changelog-not-silent-edits policy is learned from there.
